Mohammad Tabatabai

Mohammad Tabatabai was born in 1366 in Tehran.

He is often referred to as a surrealist painter. He started his art education from Tehran Fine Arts Academy.

He started painting from that time and won the first prize for painting in the country’s fine arts conservatories. Then he entered Tehran University of Art and received a bachelor’s degree in sculpture in 2010.

His first solo exhibition was held in 2013 with the title “Dog Movement” at Day Gallery in Tehran. Tabatabai has collaborated with galleries such as Shirin in the form of several solo and group exhibitions. He has also participated in London Art Fair 2018-19 and Malzi New Generation.

But this conclusion is not very accurate and does not match the definitions of surreal art and its manifesto.

Although his paintings follow the objective logic of the real world, this quality is not necessarily synonymous with being surreal and is based on defamiliarizing everyday human perception and creating amazing images. Creating contradictions in the logics of the objective world, such as eliminating the gravity of the earth, suspending forms in space, interfering with the coexistence of human body parts, placing elements in unexpected places, etc., are among the arrangements that challenge the usual perception of the audience.

What distinguishes Tabatabai’s paintings from this trend is the way he creates spaces and colors.

He has participated in many group exhibitions and so far 8 of his works have entered the Tehran auction.

So far, 8 of his works have entered the Tehran auction.
