Sima Shahmoradi
Sima Shahmoradi is a painter born in 1972 in Isfahan. She holds a BA in Painting from Isfahan University of Art (1996) and a MA in Painting from Tehran University of Art (2000). With her special technique, she creates a kind of reflective effect by folding paper and gluing it onto the surface of the canvas. It is as if the images of her subjects are reflected on the surface of a mirror-like geometric grid. The final image gives a vague shadow of the main elements. The quality of these surfaces is reminiscent of the mirroring of Iranian-Islamic architecture. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1990 at Barg Gallery, after which she has collaborated with Haftan and Homa Galleries. The artist’s works have also been featured in the Tehran Painting Biennials (2001, 2005). He has received awards such as the selection and catalogue selection of the Laura Orvito Illustration Competition (2010) in Italy and the Golden Pen selection of the Belgrade Biennial for the illustration of the book The Legend of the Golden Bergamot (2011).
