Farokh Mahdavi is one of the most prolific painters of his generation in Iran, whose works are easily recognizable by his unique use of pinkish colors and his recognizable technique where he aims to achieve a “more material meaning.” “By “removing impurities”, denigrating recognizable facial elements and transcending “stereotypical definitions”.
His works emphasize his depiction of flesh-pink, a color that covers his faces and allows for “a more holistic portrayal of human beings free from gender and race stereotypes”.
Mahdavi’s faces focus on features such as the eyes or lips, covering the rest with thick layers of pink, accurately expressing the emotions of his characters. He tries to characterize shapes and conditions without directly depicting anything else because he believes this would distract from the subject matter.
Farokh Mahdavi’s works have been shown in Iran and abroad in major exhibitions such as “Princess of the City/sses” at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, 2019 and the Iranian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, 2015.
