Kiumarth Harpa
Kiumarth Harpa is a painter born in 1936 in Tehran. He began painting seriously in 1972 and entered the Art Academy after the Cultural Revolution in 1983. His prominent professors during his studies were Mohammad Ebrahim Jafari, Mehdi Hosseini, Bahman Borujeni, and Iraj Zand. Harpa’s special and unique style is a kind of grotesque that can be seen in the influences of Marc Chagall. In the second half of the 2011s, he became one of the most famous contemporary painters in Iran. His solo exhibition in 2018 at the Sarban Gallery titled “Faded Memories” quickly made him famous. In addition to painting in the field of sculpture, his special and completely personal view on the issue of volume has provided works. His use of old tree roots and their combination with thin metal wire has produced a series of volumes that bear little resemblance to similar practices in the field of sculpture. He has collaborated with Sarban, Sayeh, and Asr galleries.
