Sima Shahmoradi is a painter born in Isfahan in 1972. She holds a BA in Painting from Isfahan University of Art (1996) and a MA in Painting from Tehran University of Art (2000). With her special technique, she creates a kind of reflective effect by folding paper and gluing it onto the surface of the canvas. It is as if the images of her subjects are reflected on the surface of a mirror-like geometric grid. The final image gives a vague shadow of the main elements. The quality of these surfaces is reminiscent of the mirroring of Iranian-Islamic architecture. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1990 at Barg Gallery, after which she collaborated with Haftan and Homa Galleries. The artist's works have also been featured in the Tehran Painting Biennial (1991, 1995). She has received awards such as the selection and the catalogue selection of the Laura Orovito Illustration Competition (2010) in Italy and the Golden Pen selection of the Belgrade Biennial for illustrating the book The Legend of the Golden Toranj (2011).
