Golestane was born in 1319 in Tehran and had a bachelor's degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts. He was a classmate of Aydin Aghdashlou and Abbas Kiarostami in Jam Qalhak High School. Ali Golestane (Mohammed Golestani) learned painting from Ali Asghar Petgar. In 1338, he went to the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University, and in 1351, he graduated from there with a diploma. Golestane lived in England from 1348 to 1356 and studied at the London Printing School affiliated to the University of London. After some time, Golestane worked as a designer and painter for the publication of the Royal Automobile Club of England.
